The Enviro Centre is a unique learning space at Eumundi State School where children connect with nature, food, community and each other through hands-on experiences.
Students learn by doing. They grow vegetables, herbs, fruit and bush foods in the school gardens, care for chickens, explore sustainable food systems, and harvest produce to use in cooking programs. Along the way, they develop practical skills, confidence, creativity and a deeper understanding of the natural world.
Learning at the Enviro Centre is connected to the Australian Curriculum and enriches learning across many areas, including science, design and technologies, health, sustainability, literacy and numeracy. Whether students are planting seeds, building habitats for pollinators, cooking with fresh ingredients, investigating ecosystems or solving real-world design challenges, learning is purposeful, engaging and connected to everyday life.
The Enviro Centre is also home to our composting and worm farming systems, bush tucker garden, lunchtime gardening club, student Enviro leadership programs and a range of community partnerships that help students understand where food comes from and how people can contribute to a more sustainable future.
At Eumundi State School, we believe children should have opportunities to get their hands dirty, ask questions, solve problems, care for living things and experience the satisfaction of growing, harvesting and sharing food. The Enviro Centre provides a place for this to happen!
