Tania Dahms- Guidance Officer
Dear Parents and Carers - I have been lucky enough to be the Guidance Officer at Eumundi State School. I am here on Wednesday and Thursday each week.
My Qualifications and Background
  • BA (Honours) Psych – First Class – University of Queensland - 1979
  • Graduate Diploma (Early Childhood Teaching) – Queensland University of Technology – 1990
  • Post Graduate Unit in Educational Assessment, University of Southern Queensland – 1997
  • Certificate in Sandplay Therapy & Symbol Work – Expressive Therapies Institute of Australia - 2007
I was granted full registration with the Psychologists Board of Queensland in 1980, and with the Board of Teacher Registration (now Qld College of Teachers) in 1991. I am a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and The Queensland Guidance and Counselling Association (QGCA).
Throughout my career I have participated in numerous short courses and professional development experiences. Among many others these have included: Psychodrama (1977) and Gestalt (1979) training, Choice Theory and Practice (1999 – 2000), Protective Behaviours (1999), Friends: Prevention of Anxiety and Depression Group Leader Training (2002), and Sandplay and Symbol Work (2005). I also hold current accreditations for administration and scoring of the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scales of Intelligence - Third Edition (WPPSI-III) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scales for Children – Fourth Edition (WISC-IV).
After I qualified as a psychologist in 1978, I worked in private enterprise at W.D. Scott Management Consultants in Sydney in an assessment and training role. As well I conducted Communication and Assertiveness training groups for adults through the NSW Department of Health’s Life Be In It program. Following this I worked in Community Corrections in NSW and then in Qld, and also for the Department of Families (now Communities and Child Safety) in Qld. I have trained as a facilitator with Effectiveness Training Australia Inc. (1989) an international organisation, which teaches communication skills to promote positive and peaceful relationships.
After three fascinating years overseas, where I also worked in both Community and in Children’s theatre, I undertook post-graduate teaching qualifications upon my return in 1989. I then taught for seven years in early childhood (Preschool to Year 3) classrooms in Brisbane. Following this I worked for four years in Far North Queensland as the Guidance Officer for the five Gulf schools, as well as at Edge Hill State School in Cairns and at Lockhart River and Coen State Schools on the Cape.
Since moving to the Sunshine Coast I have worked as the Guidance Officer at Mountain Creek State School (for eight years), as well as at Buderim Mountain, Maroochydore State School, Brightwater and Eumundi State Schools. Currently I am based at Currimundi Special School and Eumundi State School.
