Did you know that Eumundi generates about 100kg of waste each
week just from our lunches? If that shocked you, you are not alone in your
thinking. Our Year 6 Enviro leaders have decided we need to help Eumundi kids
reduce our waste by introducing recycling bins into all our eating areas. So,
starting this week, all children will have access to a bin for recycling their
lunch rubbish. Look for the yellow lid for recycling.
To help keep our children on track with using our new
recycling bins, we are going to have a little competition. Each different
eating area is going to be checked regularly by our year level Rubbish Rangers
and could be awarded 4 stars if using the bins correctly.
Here’s how they earn 4 stars.
· The first star is awarded for having all three bins
(recycling, worm and waste) side by side in their eating area.
· The second star will be granted if the recycling bin has
only recyclable items in it.
· The third star is given if the green organic bin only has
food for the worms in it.
· Finally, the fourth star is awarded for ensuring that no
items that could have been recycled or fed to the worms, ended up in the
general waste bin.
To assist your child with this new way of thinking about
waste, we have included a video summarising the items that are allowed
into the school recycling bins.
Well done to our Year 1
team. They are our first ‘4 star’ eating area. Congratulations. All the best to
the other year levels as we move into week 2.
